Aromatherapy and pregnancy

The safe use of aromatherapy during pregnancy can be extremely beneficial for maintaining the health of expectant mothers. Careful use of aromatic essential oils combined with specialist massage techniques can minimise the various discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, backache, swollen legs and ankles. Massage with essential oils will give tremendous relief from pain and help to tone the muscles that are carrying the increasing load. As well as massage from an aromatherapist, it is highly recommended that the expectant mother massages oil into her own tummy and hips daily, from about the fifth month to prevent stretch marks. Mild oedema, or puffiness of the ankles can be effectively relieved by massage of the legs with essential oils.

While the use of aromatherapy is highly recommended during pregnancy, it is important to consult a professional aromatherapist for advise on what oils are safe to use!

Specialising in Pregnancy Massage

Pregnancy is a time of both physical and emotional change for any expectant mother. Due to this the mother will experience increased stress, which, if left untreated can have a negative impact on the pregnancy. It may lead to for example to increased maternal heart rate, blood pressure, nausea and a lowered immune system.

Therefore, learning to relax is an integral part of any pregnancy plan. It has been proven that relaxation has positive results for both mother and baby and increases the chance of a positive birth experience. Professional pregnancy massage will provide much needed comfort, support and relaxation for both mother and baby.

In addition to relaxation, massage in pregnancy can provide the following benefits:

• provides pain relief

• provides a feeling of well being

• improves blood circulation

• assists with digestion and elimination of toxins

• pumps the lymphatic system which helps
fight infection

• allows us to cope better with stress

• generally increases our health and reduces stress

A professional pregnancy massage will take into consideration how you feel both emotionally and physically. Special positions and techniques for your comfort and safety during the massage are our priority.
