Reflexology
Reflexology is a specialized foot massage, which uses precise “reflex” points on the feet that correspond with all areas of the body. The aim is to remove energy blockages and to restore balance and well-being for the whole person.
Specialising in Pregnancy and Hormonal conditions
In my practice I have a wide range of experience in treating clients with menstrual problems such as painful periods, irregular cycles, Pre Menstrual Syndrome (PMS), hormonal balance and fertility issues.
Reflexology can assist with many aspects of pre-natal, post-natal and infant –care. I use reflexology throughout pregnancy to help maintain a balance with the transpiring bodily/emotional changes. It can be successful for alleviating morning sickness and stabilizing blood pressure. Towards the end of the 3rd trimester having 3 or 4 treatments can assist with a naturally occurring labour and reduced labour time.
In my practice I find reflexology to be a comfort for children and infants, helping to ease common problems of colic, restlessness, sleeping & teething. I also run Baby Massage courses which incorporate Baby Reflexology – so that new mother’s can have hands –on learning of how to soothe & alleviate many common complaints from digestive to sleeping issues. Baby massage with reflexology helps to strengthen the bond between mother and baby, which in turn encourages a happier and calmer infant development.
Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy and many of my clients have commented on the fact that treatments have not only helped with particular issues, but have also given them precious space to have “time-out” for themselves.
Case Study 1 – PSO syndrome
Ms D came to me for help with polycystic ovary syndrome, which was causing symptoms of irregular cycles, mood swings, and weight gain. Her menstrual cycle had been erratic for over 3 years and she had been put on the pill in order to regulate it. However, since stopping medication over a year ago, her menstruation had ceased.
I worked reflex points particularly to support her endocrine system and to nurture balance & calm. After the third weekly session, she started to menstruate and has continued to menstruate on a regular basis since then.
Ms D expressed her great relief at the return of her cycle and commented that she was feeling on a more "even keel" . Along with her current monthly Reflexology treatments, she is now using regular exercise and a healthier diet to help keep her weight in check.
Case Study 2 –
Mrs W came to me for Reflexology in her second trimester. It was her third pregnancy and as both previous births had ended in medical interventions leaving herself and her babies feeling distressed, she was determined for this one to be as natural as possible.
She continued sessions on a monthly basis and commented how the treatments left her feeling more relaxed, stronger and with more space for herself.
She also practiced pregnancy yoga to help with posture and breathing technique. Her baby was born around the due date, in a birthing pool just as she had wanted. She was surprised at how different and empowering this birth had been and how little baby J was subsequently so relaxed!
