Osteopathy

Description of therapy

Osteopaths believe that the body is always striving to be in balance and harmony. Your osteopath will check your anatomy to discover the cause of your discomfort and resolve it.

Pregnancy related back pain should be easily resolved over two or three sessions of osteopathic treatment using gentle manipulation plus the relaxation of muscles ligaments and joints. Cranial osteopathy can support both you and your new-born baby.

Your posture and balance dramatically changes during pregnancy. This is an entirely natural process, which takes place as your baby grows and your body prepares to give birth. Sometimes, past trauma and stress may hinder this process and cause unnecessary discomfort.

Your osteopath can help you maximise your health and comfort during and after your pregnancy. Sometimes events occur that the body finds difficult to correct without assistance as in the case of a traumatic birth. This is where the specific application of a highly developed sense of touch in both diagnosis and treatment from your osteopath can help.

Nargis encourages routine checks for both mother and baby after giving birth.

Case study

Mrs ‘X’ an experienced mother of three children, brought Henry to clinic when he was 4 months old. Henry was a healthy baby, but refused to settle… He was unable to sleep during day because he was colicky with cramps, discomfort and tensing with temper. He had continuous bouts of hic-cups and was starting to teethe. He was constantly arching his back and screaming when placed in his car seat. I discovered that Henry had a normal birth, but had become briefly stuck in the last stage of labour.

Over the course of three osteopathic sessions, using a gentle cranial approach and working on the mechanics for breathing and balancing the irritation in his upper neck, Henry improved rapidly. After the third treatment his Mum reported that Henry was no longer arching in his car seat, content and sleeping during the day and that she was ‘over the moon’.
